Worth seeing for the actors
Worth seeing for the pleasure of Ralph Richardson as Mr. Micawber, played against strongly by Wendy Hiller as Mrs. Micawber. Michael Redgrave makes a fine Dan Peggotty and Susan Hampshire is sweet as Agnes Wickfield. That’s only four of the excellent actors you will enjoy. To squeeze the rich book into two hours, Dickens’ story has to be simplified and unfortunately most of the characters, which are his strength, have no time for development.
